The latest Lancet Report on the incidence of abortion in India reveals that there were about 15.6 million abortions in the year 2015, of which 0.8 million took place in unsafe circumstances outside registered health facilities or without the appropriate medication. The abortion rate, in 2015 according to the report was 47 abortions (42.2-52.1) per 1000 women aged 15-49 years.
